We're forming a union!
We the workers of the Anne Arundel County Public Library system are committed to fostering a culture of kindness, curiosity, and belonging. We pride ourselves in being community connectors, using our resources and partnerships to educate, enrich, and inspire the lives of all people. We are over 300 Librarians, Library associates, Circulation staff, Building Care Technicians, and countless others. In order to realize this mission, we are forming a union with AFSCME Council 3.
Our libraries serve as critical infrastructure for our community. Just as the needs of the community evolve, so do those of its workers. Across the country, workers are leading a historic movement towards autonomy, agency, and dignity in their workplaces.
We are forming our union to fight for:
- Fair wages, a safe work environment and adequate staffing.
- Transparent and timely communication where frontline workers’ experiences are valued in the decision making process.
- Equitable responsibilities to achieve our full potential as public servants in serving the community.
We can be transformative agents of change to ensure a stronger, more resilient library system based on the diverse voices of all workers. We are excited to work together to realize this vision of an equitable and sustainable future. We invite all AACPL staff to join our union, share your voice, and work together to advocate for ourselves and our community to improve our cherished library system in meaningful ways. Please join us!
